With three murders reported from different areas of the city on consecutive three days, the crime graph has spiralled in the district. Besides this, there were two more suspected murders during the last week. SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said two of the three murders cases had been solved.
On Friday last, two unidentified robbers had shot dead a collection agent of Cash Management Services (CMS) company Rajesh Kumar in a broad daylight in Ghumar Mandi area. However, the robbers could not succeed in snatching the bag which contained Rs three lakh. Then next day the Sadar police found a brutally stabbed body of an unidentified youth from an area near Lalton village. On the third day, businessman Joginder Pal was brutally killed by three masked men in Jawahar Nagar camp area.
On Thursday last,a highly decomposed body of 10-year-old boy was found from near the Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib. Three days before that, factory worker Dhan Bahadur was found murdered in Lato Dana village under the jurisdiction of Sahnewal police station area. On Monday last, armed robbers had looted Rs 18 lakh from a factory supervisor in Focal Point.
Where these three murders on consecutive days have caused panic among the city residents, these have also given an opportunity to political leaders to train guns on each other.
Congress MLA from Kila Raipur Jassi Khangura said,”After every crime,we have a press conference by the police claiming to have cracked a previous case only to learn the next day that another serious incident has taken place,” he said.
Khangura said it can never be worse than this. “A tehsildar is stripped and beaten up in the public,an SP is thrashed black and blue, vehicles and cash are snatched at gunpoint,a hospital is ransacked and now when a brave boy tried to save the money of his company,he paid with his life,” Khangura said adding that there was total anarchy in the city.
Blaming the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharitya Janata Party alliance for lawlessness,he said the Chief Minister and his entire herd of ministers and legislators were busy showing their presence and loyalty in Jallalabad, while the city has been left at the mercy of robbers and assassins.
However,SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said,”Out of the three murders,we have almost solved two and have identified the accused. The murder of CMS employees has been solved.”
