Thieves strike cars in separate cases,‘steal’ Rs 8 lakh

Thieves seem to have had a field day on Saturday after two instances of cash being robbed from parked cars were reported in the city.

Thieves seem to have had a field day on Saturday after two instances of cash being robbed from parked cars were reported in the city. In the first incident,two briefcases,containing Rs 5 lakh and other documents were stolen from a car parked at Gill Road near Janta Nagar on Saturday afternoon. This,despite heavy police presence at Kiran Hospital on Gill Road,a few metres from the spot where the incident occurred.

The car belonged to Sangrur trader Praveen Jain. He said he had come to Ludhiana along with his son to buy furniture for their house. He had parked his car at Gill Road but returned to find the windows had been broken and two briefcases,placed at back seat, were missing.

Jain said one briefcase contained the money while the other consisted of cheque books,pass books of bank accounts and other important documents.

Inspector Jaswinder Singh,SHO at police station Shimlapuri,said a case has been registered. Police have also picked up two suspects from the area,who were being questioned at the time of filing this report.

In the second such incident,unidentified miscreants struck in Maharaj Nagar near Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) gate number 3 on Saturday afternoon and allegedly stole Rs 3 lakh after breaking the windowpane of SUV that belonged to a contractor.

According to contractor Naushad,he had parked his car beside a road and when he returned,the window panes,on his car,had been broken and a bag containing the money was missing.

Sub-Inspector Gurveer Singh,SHO at police station PAU reached the spot.

The SHO said police had initiated investigations after registering a case against unidentified miscreants.

Purse snatched from scribeM

Minna Zutshi,the bureau head of English daily ‘The Tribune’ had her wallet snatched by two motorcycle borne miscreants near the Sarabha Nagar main market on Friday evening. The purse contained Rs 11,000 besides an ATM card,identity card,driving license and other documents. The victim registered a case of snatching against unidentified miscreants. According to Minna Zutshi,she was heading towards Sarabha Nagar on a cycle rickshaw. As the rickshaw took a turn from Ferozepur Road to the street adjoining Hotel Le Baron,the motorcycle borne miscreants appeared and the pillion rider snatched her purse. Inspector Mandeep Singh,SHO at police station Sarabha Nagar,said police have registered a case and are investigating.
