Sufi concert to remember Amrita on her death anniversary today

A concert by eminent Sufi scholar and music artiste Madan Gopal Singh is being organised to remember Amrita Chaudhry on her first death anniversary on Tuesday.

A concert by eminent Sufi scholar and music artiste Madan Gopal Singh is being organised to remember Amrita Chaudhry on her first death anniversary on Tuesday.

The internationally acclaimed artiste will be in the city to perform along with his ensemble ‘Chaar Yaar’. Amrita,a Principal Correspondent with The Indian Express,had died in a road accident on October 22 last year.

Being organised by the Spirit of Amrita Foundation,formed after her demise,the concert will be held at Mini- Auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan at 6 pm.

The entry for the concert is free of cost.

A well known name in the world of cinema,art and cultural history,Singh is a treasure trove of Sufi and folk poetry. He is known for his rendition of immortal Sufi compositions and his Punjabi and Hindustani translations of Rumi,Attar,Rilke,Pablo Neruda,Brecht and Tagore.

Singh has written dialogues and lyrics for the film Qissa,currently winning accolades at international film festivals. He composed music for Khamosh Pani,a French-German-Pakistan co-production that won the Best Film award at the Locarno Film Festival,2003.
