Storm causes extensive damage

An old man died while private and public property worth crores was damaged on Thursday night after strong winds swept the area near Sangrur and Barnala.

An old man died while private and public property worth crores was damaged on Thursday night after strong winds swept the area near Sangrur and Barnala.

The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Ram Swarup who was buried under the debris of a wall which fell as a result of these strong winds.

The residents of the area had to face a power cut after many 66KV sub stations belonging to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited were damaged.

R K Arora Circle Deputy Chief Engineer of this area informed that machinery in some 24 PSPCL sub stations has been damaged. While the repair has begun yet power in the urban areas could be restored only by Friday evening with many villages still under dark.
