In the annual general body meeting of the Sewing Machine Development Club held here on Saturday,the members stressed the need for a separate research and development centre for the sewing machine industry. The chairman of the association,Dalbir Dhiman said that though they were ready with cluster programme but had not got any land. The president of the club,Jagbir Singh Sokhi said that their members would also be sending proposals in the pre-budget session so as to get excise duty waived off from sewing machine parts. Satish Dhanda,vice-chairman,Medium Scale Industry Board,urged the industry to continuously upgrade themselves in order to face the competition successfully. Inderjit Singh Pradhan,chairman,Small Scale Industry Board,was also present at the meeting. The duo assured the members that they would soon have a meeting with the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and apprise of him of their demands.
