The president of state SAD (Delhi),J S Balliawal, has accused PWD Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa of constructing a bridge worth Rs 2 crore over the Sidhwan canal connecting the vacant land between Dakha,Kailpur,Tingra and Chak villages to favour a private coloniser.
A colony is coming up on both sides of the canal. While there is 12-acre land on one side of the canal, the other side has 30 acres. Already, one bridge at a distance of 1 km has been constructed. Still, this bridge is being built to favour the coloniser due to reasons best known to the minister.
The members of SAD(Delhi) also alleged the minister himself was a part of the project. When it is a project of the irrigation department, why is the PWD going out of its way to work for the project? What is the use of spending Rs 2 crore on a project which is not even required? asked Balliawal.
Dhindsa,however,was not available for comments.
When asked,PWD project in-charge Charanjit Singh Bains said: I am not aware of any coloniser. But the area needs this bridge. As we have already built a road worth Rs 10 crore on one side of the canal,to link that road,a bridge has to be constructed. Otherwise, there is no point of spending crores on the road. This project has been approved as per norms and no one has been given special favours.
According to sources, the Rs 10 crore-road has been constructed to connect the colony with the rest of the city. SAD(Delhi) has demanded an inquiry into the project.
