It was a joyous reunion for the emotional parents of the newly born as they embraced their five-day old boy at the Civil Hospital today, two days after he was stolen from the maternity ward of the hospital.
As the news of the discovery of the infant reached the parents around 7.30 am,bringing smiles on their faces again, father Amrik singh and mother Rajinder Kaur erupted in joyous hugs, wishing time elapsed faster as they waited anxiously to have a glimpse of their bundle of joy.
The eyes of the relatives present at the reunion were moist and tears streaked down the eyes of Rajinder Kaur when she clung on to the infant wrapped in a piece of cloth.
“It is a second life for our son and we cannot thank God much for reuniting him with us,” said the emotionally-charged father of the newborn. He said they were elated when they heard that an infant had been found at a park in the outskirts of the city with a bracelet around his wrist.
“We were fully sure that it was our son,” he beamed, refraining from commenting on who stole the baby from the hospital ward and why. Rajinder said she kept her hopes intact in the past 48 hours. “But it kept wavering all this while as we were not completely sure of it.”
Bursting with joy,Rajinder, who has three daughters too, added,”It was my fourth child and I had prayed for his birth. But when he went missing,it left me shocked and shattered.”
The five-day-old had gone missing from the hospital ward in a strange manner. According to Rajinder,a woman took them into confidence after striking a cord of friendship at the ward. Later, she took the baby out on the pretext of looking after him for some time but never returned.
However, the infant who was named Rajwinder alias Raja by the parents, has caught infections along with traces of jaundice over the last two days, said Dr Harpreet Singh, paediatrician at the Civil Hospital.
“The baby has got septicemia with jaundice due to lack of proper care and exposure to contamination in the last two days. It might take about a week to treat the child but there are no complications involved,” the doctor said.
