NRI woman approaches embassy as police turn deaf ear to her plaint

NRI Lajwant Kaur,who is settled in Canada for the last over 17 years,while addressing a press conference here today said that some of her paternal relatives had been trying to grab the property of her father,Zora Singh who had died in September 2003. Saying that she was the only rightful successor of her father’s property being his only child,Lajwant Kaur said that some of her paternal relatives had been trying to grab that property in Jagraon.

Lajwant Kaur said that due to the threats of these relatives her mother Kuljinder Kaur had suffered a severe heart attack and died at Hero DMC Heart Centre on July. She said that even after her mother’s death,her relatives had not stopped threatening her.

The NRI woman,who was accompanied by her husband Bharat Rai alias Gopa,said that she had complained the matter to the police but despite Ludhiana SSP’s orders,no action has been initiated so far in her case. She said that she even went to the office of Director General of Police (DGP),Punjab on July to give her complaint but DGP’s office was close that day on account of martyrdom day of Udham Singh.

Lajwant Kaur said that now she had sent her complaint to the Canadian embassy in India through email. The woman said that she feared that her paternal relatives could create problems at the bhog ceremony of her mother on Tuesday.

The SSP,Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said that he would look into the matter that why no action was initiated despite his orders. He said that an appropriate action would be taken as per law.
