The students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Tuesday night came out on the varsity streets with books and studied under street lights.

Reportedly, there was no power in PAU hostels for approximately five hours while exams are underway for all the courses. There was a major problem in the 66 KV power grid and hotline of the varsity’s power supply which led to the whole problem.

Also there is no power backup- genset or inverter- in any of five hostels of PAU. Talking to Newsline, Karanvir Singh Sandhu from
PAU Students Association (PAUSA) said, “Exams are going on and there is no arrangement for power backup in hostels in case power grid fails.

Electricity was restored after five hours and till then students were forced to study under street lights. We will be asking the authorities to at least provide inverters in the common area and mess where students can sit in case of emergency power failure.”

Jaskaran Singh Mahal, estate officer PAU said, “In daytime, there was problem in power grid which was solved. I am not aware of power failure at night.”
