The newborn, who was stolen from the Civil Hospital on Thursday, was found in a lawn outside a house in Sector 32 on the Chandigarh road on Saturday.
According to the police,at around 6.30 am,one S K Kapoor spotted the infant, wrapped up in cloth, crying in the lawn outside his house. He reported the matter to the police. The family of the missing child was then informed by the police to identify the child.
Later, the child was reunited with his mother Rajinder Kaur at the Civil Hospital.
Speaking to Newsline SSP Dr Sukchain Singh Gill said that they had to exercise a great restraint while investigating the case. He said that it was due to the pressure from the police and media that the abductors had to abandon the child.
“Thankfully, the child was recovered unhurt. We also have got some clues about the women who had stolen the child. We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime,” the SSP added.
Meanwhile, sources at the Civil Hospital revealed that on the fateful day,the mother-daughter duo had tried to steal another infant from the female ward but the infant’s grandmother had taken him back. Sources said that it seemed that the duo had been keeping their eyes on newly born boys as the accused had picked both the infants after enquiring about their gender.
