The Ludhiana police arrested a 19-year old youth who allegedly appearing in class X board exam in place of his friend at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, Friday. Abhishek Giri, 19, of Shimlapuri was caught red-handed by the examination staff while appearing in Punjabi exam in place of his friend Sukhraj Singh. Both Sukhraj and Abhishek have been booked. Giri is also appearing in class XII exams. Exam superintendent Ravinder Kaur, in her complaint, told police that after the examination started, she was checking admit cards of students. She noticed that a student appeared entirely different from the picture printed on the admit card. He has trimmed hair while the picture printed on admit card was of a turbaned youth. Soon, the youngster confessed that he had appeared in the examination on behalf of his friend Sukhraj Singh. Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO of division number 8 police station said that Sukhraj had asked Giri to appear in his place as the latter was better in studies. Giri told police that he appeared in the exam for the sake of friendship and did not take any money. An FIR under Sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating) of IPC has been registered at division number 8 police station.
