After getting a limited footfall in last year’s bicycle expo at the Government College for Girls(GCG) ground because of heavy rains, this year the organisers have spent lakhs on improving infrastructure alone so that losses can be reduced. Though mild rainfall had been predicted on both days, only an overcast sky welcomed visitors.
Gurmeet Singh Kular, president, Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO), said, “We ensured wooden flooring on the exhibition ground before rolling the carpets, besides making arrangements for drainage. There is no exhibition centre in this industrial town, and we have to spend lakhs every time.”
Last year, the ground had turned muddy after heavy rainfall, and even the electricity supply was restored after many hours at the venue.

As many as 110 companies from India and 25 from abroad have displayed their products. More than 1,000 dealers came with their business queries on Friday and Saturday, while industrialists are expecting more than 700 dealers on Sunday. A cycle rally will also be organised by Avon Cycles on Sunday at the ground.
The industrialists had been urging the state as well as union government for an exhibition centre on the lines of Pragati Maidan, but nothing in this direction has been done till now. Industrialists spend huge amounts for making the exhibition centre water-proof and presentable, which is demolished after three days.
