Speaking on environmental challenges facing the city and the state,EcoSikh president Dr Rajwant Singh on Sunday exhorted the industry to take the leading role in creating environmental awareness campaign in Ludhiana.
He was speaking at a programme organised by the United Cycle & Parts Manufacturers Association,Ludhiana.
Dr Singh appealed to senior councillor Pal Singh Grewal to designate a day as Ludhiana Day during which to reflect upon ways and means to make the city environmentally sustainable in future. He also expressed the need for increasing demand for organic food through individual homes,starting with leading industrialists themselves and creating more consciousness for health food consumption.
He appealed to the industry to adopt schools and colleges in the city for rainwater harvesting,plantation and solar energy. He said the industry should adopt public roads and parks and take responsibility to maintain them.
Association chairman Manjit Singh Khalsa,president Gurmeet Singh Kular and general secretary Surinder Singh Chauhan promised Dr Singh full cooperation in the environmental campaign.
