It was the fourth time that the 19-year-old sexual harassment victim of Chand Colony was called to the police station to get her statement recorded on Monday. She was sexually harassed while she was watering plants outside her house on July 9. After a lot of protest by the entire area,police lodged an FIR against three persons on August 21 (41 days after the incident)
but failed to arrest even a single person mentioned in the FIR.
On Monday,the area residents lodged their protest once again against the police inaction. Dr Arun Mitra,an ENT specialist and an activist,said,The girl first went and recorded her statement at the Kitchlu Nagar police station. Later,she went to ACP Gurpreet Purewal. Then she went to Police Commissioner P S Gill. On Monday again,she was summoned to appear before ADCP Joginder Singh. This is height of mental agony. Moreover,even after registration of the FIR on August 21,no one has been arrested to date.
The residents had met Police Commissioner P S Gill who marked an inquiry to ADCP Joginder Singh.
Gill,however,said,We have to follow our investigation process and we will complete it in a stipulated time. Even the court gives us 90 days time for investigation. We will take action after the completion of investigation.
Case history
The victim was watering plants outside her house when youngsters Rajesh,Babloo and one more sitting on rooftop of a house passed vulgar comments on her. When her mother objected,the youngsters came down and started fighting with the duo and sexually harassed the victim,alleged the parents of the girl. The boys were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The girls father is a Class IV employee at PAU while the girl is a BSc II student at a government college.
