The Ludhiana south sub-division of police became the first in Punjab to install GPS system on bikes of PCR cops on Monday. A control room was also inaugurated at the office of the ACP south.
The system has been installed on eight PCR motorcycles which will track location of cops when on duty. The motorcycles were flagged off by police commissioner Parmod Ban.
“The GPS on these motorcycles is first of its kind in Punjab because of small size as of mobile battery and almost nil battery consumption. It is designed especially for use in two wheelers as the earlier GPS systems used by police were designed for four wheelers which resulted in more power consumption and other technical issues.”
“It is an improved version of earlier systems which gives minute details about route followed, distance and area covered(in km), duration of stay at any locatiob during the day, details about police official riding the bike with his contact number, graphical analysis of their past performance of an year which will further hold them accountable for fuel utilization, reaching the crime scene at specific time, current and past locations, points checked by them etc,” said Rupinder Kaur, ACP south.
“In case anybody tries to tamper with the system , alert will be sent on the mobile phone of concerned sub divisional officers and at sub control room. A similar alert would also be sent in case the motor cycle tries to cross the boundaries of its beat area. It will also give location and details of stay in case bike is turned off. It is a tailor made solution designed by the police and for the police to check all complaints regarding PCR bikes and staff,” said Kaur.
