Ludhiana Citizens Health Council organized Healthy Child Contest and cultural programme at Guru Nanak International Senior Secondary Public School,Model Town. It was inaugurated by Dr JP Singh,Director,Health Services and Family Welfare,Punjab government.
A team of doctors evaluated the children. On this occasion,the students of various schools performed in the cultural programme.
During his inaugural session,Dr J.P Singh also released a study report on Current status of sex ratio in Ludhiana city conducted by Dr SC Gupta,Secretary General,LCHC,and Renu Bhasin,project co-ordinator,IUHPE,Punjab chapter. The findings of the study highlighted the latest picture of sex ratio trend among 0-6 years children ie. 802 females per thousand males.
Dr Gursharanjit Singh,project director,Mother NGO and members of LCHS,presented Life time achievement award to Dr J.P.Singh.
While DD Ternach,Director,Women and Child Development and Social Security,Punjab,was the chief guest in the closing session. He also released a report prepared by Dr SC Gupta,Sec Gen,LCHC,and Renu Bhasin on Prevention of HIV/AIDS in urban slums.
The said report was conducted among 1,500 Industrial workers of different industries of Ludhiana city. The findings of the study highlighted that only 17% of the respondents had heard about HIV/AIDS and had very little knowledge about the modes of transmission,symptoms and seriousness of the disease. After the efforts of LCHC,regarding AIDS education programme,around 83% of industrial workers had enhanced their knowledge about HIV/AIDS and its prevalence.
