It’s interesting to note that Ray and Sheth have played lesbians in another film called The World Unseen,also with the same director,Shamim Sarif. On why she chose to play a similar character in both the films,Ray says “I don’t chose to play anything but a character. These were two interesting characters and strong roles. You need to see the films to understand.”

Ray tells us the response abroad has been overwhelming and the film has given her an entirely new international fan-base. “I’ve been told there are a lot of fan sites dedicated to Tala in China and Europe and videos on YouTube. People enjoy the film for what it is and we keep winning audience awards at various film festivals,” she says.

The last film released in India which had lesbian lovers was Girlfriend which had LGBT groups fuming. This film looks like a welcome change and received a big thumbs-up from LGBT groups after a special screening last week. “Women hold up half the sky. This all may sound grand in the context of a film,but my point is we need dialogues and films in India which empower and respect women on every plane,” the actress says.

Ray has her diary filled with events,shoots and charity events for the year but she still hopes that she can devote time to do some work in India as well. “Yes,I definitely miss India a lot. I spent a lot of time recently in Dharamshala. There are interesting endorsement offers coming my way,but no,I haven’t signed anything as yet.”
