The police on Saturday arrested five shopkeepers issuing SIM cards on fake identity proof.

The accused have been identified as Gurcharan Singh,owner of Jasleen Sethi Telecom at Janta Nagar,Ravinder Singh,owner of Friends Telecom at Marado colony,Tajinder Pal Singh of Islam Gunj,Deepak Kumar of Kot Mangal Singh and Lalit Kumar of Chet Singh Nagar.

A case under sections 465,467,468,120-B of

the IPC and 66-A of the IT Act has been registered against the accused in this context at Shimlapuri police station.

The police recovered 1,020 mobile SIM cards,130 forged identity proof,already activated SIM cards,printers and laptops from the accused.

Sub-Inspector Harbans Singh,incharge of Anti-Narcotic and Anti-Illicit Liquor Smuggling Wing,said the wing initiated a special drive and more accused might be arrested in future.
