Diffusion drive in last phase

The diffusion drive of explosives in the jungles of Mattewara has reached its final phase.

20 more days to go… 200 heavyweight explosives remaining

The diffusion drive of explosives in the jungles of Mattewara has reached its final phase. Nearly 200 heavy-weight explosives are left, apart from a few light weight ones, which will take nearly 20 days to complete. Of the five containers full of explosives, only one is now left, revealed the Army authorities.

At present, the duration of the villagers’ stay outside their houses has been reduced to around 5 hours a day. They leave home by 10 am and are back by 3.30 pm,said Operation Sayyam In-Charge Col Vinod Bhatt.

On Friday, the district administration distributed nearly 100 shawls, sweaters and mufflers to the villagers of Kalewal and Sekhewal. “This was done because the villagers have been forced to sit outside their houses in the thick of winter,” said DC Rahul Tiwari who was with the distribution team.

The distribution of woollens comes more than 40 days after the diffusion drive was started in November. A langar is being sponsored for the villagers by two SGPC gurudwaras, which have specially introduced Kheer and Jalebi in the daily menu in response to their request.

Speaking on the expenditure for the drive, the DC said that an estimated Rs 1.36 crore has been deposited by industrialists. “The Army has not raised any further demand till now. For the villagers,we have calculated the expenditure on cattle feed and other activities to be around Rs 20 lakh. This, too, will have to be borne by the industrialists,” he pointed out.
