Dharna against opening of liquor vend in Chander Nagar

Residents of Chander Nagar on Monday staged a dharna against opening of a liquor vend on Chander Nagar puli.

Residents of Chander Nagar on Monday staged a dharna against opening of a liquor vend on Chander Nagar puli. The residents were supported by area councillor Narinder Singh Malhi.

The residents said that there was no liquor vend on that road and now Chabbra group was opening one vend. Malhi said since a residential colony was near by,the residents objected to the opening of this vend.

This year, the excise department has chosen many locations where no liquor vend was existing earlier. The proposal is to open one liquor vend on the national highway, one on the Ferozepur road near Park Plaza hotel, and one on Mall Road — all these roads have no liquor vends. The department has chosen these locations to show presence of vends everywhere.

After staging their dharna, the residents went to meet assistant excise and taxation commissioner Jaskaran Brar,in whose office the contractor was also called. The residents urged for a change in the location of the vend, but no decision was taken.
