* Ask corrupt employees to mend their ways or face the axe* Inspection conducted after ministers received a number of complaints Corrupt officials and politicians, stay alert! We will conduct surprise checks in various government offices and corrupt persons will not be spared. We will drag the guilty by their collars and politicians supporting them. Corruption needs to be checked. Public is waiting to get their work done but are being harassed constantly. After looking at the corrupt system,we are feeling frustrated and helpless for the masses, said Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda, who had gone for a surprise visit to the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) office this morning after getting hundreds of complaints against the staff. He was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosian. Dhanda said,I must confess that there is a big gang operating out here from the top to bottom. The executive officer was speechless when asked as why the genuine work of the public is not being done. We have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the newly appointed administrator Gurjit Singh to solve the pending cases. Dhanda highlighted that one Surjit Singh in his 80s had submitted all papers and wanted supplementary khasra number for his house in Gurdev Nagar because he wanted to sell his house. The work was lying pending for more than two and a half years despite submission of all the papers. A widow wanted a certificate from the LIT because she also wanted to sell her house. She has been coming from Delhi for the last three years to get her work done but to no avail, said an irritated Gosian. Dhanda said,The corrupt officials are bringing a bad name to the government. But Gosian said,It will take a long time to wipe out corruption from LIT. It is deep-rooted. Employees are working here for more than 20 years at the same post and are getting transfers cancelled, and hence making money. We received hundreds of complaints. The ministers descended on the premises with an army of 35 people. Fearing that income tax officials have come to conduct a raid, half of the employees ran away from the office. On the hit listIn the coming weeks, employees of MC,GLADA,Transport office and Registrar office will be under the scanner. Raging ministersGosian and Dhanda categorically expressed their displeasure with Secretary Local Government D S Bains,Director Local Bodies Departmet Ashok Bajaj and Local Bodies Department Minister Manoranjan Kalia. All of them have failed to do their jobs, said Dhanda. He added, I met Manoranjan and he suggested the transfer of Estate Officer, but this is no solution. I want work to be done and the corrupt officials should be dismissed and not transferred. Name-callingAlthough Dhanda and Gosian had gone to LIT office being a part of the government,BJP leader Kamal Chaitly was openly abusing the LIT staff at the behest of the duo.
