Cops claim intruder came to ‘get his photograph clicked’

The intruder was immediately taken away by the police and Narula continued her performance.

While singer Jaspinder Narula was on the stage performing at the closing ceremony of the Kabaddi World Cup at Guru Nanak Stadium on Saturday,an intruder, later identified as Gurpreet Singh from Kila Hans village near Rara Sahib, broke the security cordon, climbed the stage and snatched the microphone from Narula, sending shock waves across the stadium.

The intruder was immediately taken away by the police and Narula continued her performance. However, the incident raised a question mark on the security arrangements of the Punjab Police for the mega event.

Sukhvinder Singh,ASI from division number 8 police station, claimed that “he came to get a photograph clicked”.

“As per interrogation,he came to get a photograph clicked with the singer,” the ASI said.

However,SHO Davinder Kumar refused to comment on the matter.

While later in the day,the police registered a case under sections 7/51 of the IPC,the accused was taken to the Crime Investigation Agency for further interrogation. As per sources, his Facebook account is also being investigated to know the exact reason for his action.

However, sources said that “he was a supporter of Gurbax Singh who has been on a hunger strike for the past month at Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali”. “He wanted the government to pay heed to the man sitting on hunger strike in Mohali and jumped onto the stage,” said a police source, adding that his home was raided late in the night and a computer was seized.
