City welcomes monsoon in style

City residents seem to be indeed happy and relieved after the mild showers as they have started celebrating the monsoon season in their own styles.

City residents seem to be indeed happy and relieved after the mild showers as they have started celebrating the monsoon season in their own styles. Small get-togethers were organised at the weekend in many houses while Lodhi Club had organised a special monsoon party for the club members at the pool side on Saturday night.

Jagmohan Krishan,general secretary of the club,said that scorching heat had indeed troubled residents a lot.

“So after mild showers,we decided to celebrate. Our members had a get together to celebrate this occasion,” he said.

Vikas Dua,sports secretary,added that they were eagerly waiting for the first shower so as to celebrate it.

However to welcome the monsoon season,MBD Mall has organised Mango festival which will continue till July 22. The festival has been named Mango Mania in which 12 different flavours of mango have been used to make various dishes.

These are chicken marinated with raw mango pulp and mint,Thai green Mango salad,aam tikki,kache aam ka halwa,mango ras malai,mango cheese cake and much more.

The Mango varieties – alfanso,langra and dussheri – were also put on display. Punjabis love a variety of flavours. So keeping that in mind,the mall has come up with mango varieties,said Rakesh Rawat,GM of the mall.

Apart from this,even langars and kirtans are also being organised by the residents.

In Satpaul Mittal park at Sarabha Nagar,a special langar of missi roti and lassi was organised to mark the arrival of the monsoon.

The langar was offered to morning walkers while a similar langar will be organised at Leisure Valley as well in the coming week.

Bhupinder Singh,yoga instructor at Sarabha Nagar Park,said,“Special prayers were offered by residents of the area for days together so as to give them relief from the scorching heat. Finally,when the God answered their prayers,the park management society celebrated in the form of a langar.”

A kirtan will also be organised at the Harnam Nagar temple to celebrate the arrival of the monsoon.
