Continuing their fine form in the tournament,Chandigarh posted a mammoth total of 425 runs in 94.5 overs against hosts Jalandhar on the opening day of the league match of the Punjab Inter-District Senior Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield being played at Burlton Park on Tuesday.
Chandigarh started with a flourish notching up 103 runs for the first wicket as Sarul Kanwar and Vishwas Bhalla flouted the opposition bowlers. Sarul played a superb knock of 69 runs off 64 balls which consisted of 12 boundaries while Vishwas Bhalla played an innings of 50 runs. Sarul was the first batsman to fall as Jalandhar wicket-keeper Abhishek Gupta took a catch off the bowling of off-spinner Pargat Singh. Vishwas Bhalla was the next to go after being brilliantly run out by Pargat Singh. Amit Prashar and Uday Kaul were then associated in a 159-run stand for the fourth wicket as Prashar played an innings of 82 runs. Prashar’s innings was studded with 11 boundaries while Uday Kaul played an innings 87 runs,hitting eight boundaries and one six during his innings. Anupam Gambhir played an unbeaten cameo of 50 of 63 balls which included five hits to the boundary. For hosts Jalandhar,leg-spinner Rahul Sharma claimed six wickets for 147 runs while Pargat Singh claimed two wickets for 59 runs.

Patiala in comfortable position
Riding high on a superb century by Himanshu Chopra,Patiala posted a competitive total of 359 in their first innings against hosts Amritsar in a match played Gandhi Grounds. Himanshu was the top scorer for the visitors as he played a brilliant knock of 140 runs off 159 balls. His innings consisted of 14 boundaries and three towering sixes. Himanshu was associated in a 113-run stand for the sixth wicket with Mohit Mahindra,who played a knock of 41 runs. The other main contributors for Patiala were skipper Pankaj Dharmani,who played a knock of 47 runs while Ravi Inder played a knock of 40. For Amritsar,Bharat Loomba was the main wicket-taker as he claimed four wickets for seven runs.

Ludhiana take honours
In another match played at PAU grounds,Ludhiana,Bathinda were bundled out for 196 in 52.2 overs against hosts Ludhiana. Hakikat was the main scorer for Bathinda as he played an innings of 47 runs while Manil Bajaj played an innings of 38 runs. For Ludhiana,Ankur Kakkar was the main wicket-taker as he claimed six wickets for 40 runs while Gagandeep Dhand claimed two wickets for 2 for 40. In reply,Ludhiana were 151 for 3 in 42 overs in their first innings. Karan Goel was unbeaten on 67 runs. He smashed nine boundaries and one towering six. Gaurav Marwaha was also unbeaten on 29 runs.
