Families of the migrants arrested for December 3 and 4 clashes have appealed to the district administration for justice. Pravati,a resident of Sudarshan Colony, says,The police picked up my husband,Bharat on the night of December 3. My husband had come back from work and we had just finished our dinner when the police forcibly entered our room. They then began beating up my husband and when I intervened and they beat me up also. My husband had nothing to do with the clash but has been arrested.
Parvati adds,I am alone here and am not even allowed to meet my husband. The police demands identity card and when I produced one they say that this card has expired and was not valid. The police is simply harassing us. There is no one to help us out.
Lalita Devi, another resident, adds,My husband too was picked up at midnight on December 3. He is the sole earning member of our family and now we do not even have food at home to eat. We really do not know how will we fight a legal battle. I cannot even secure bail for my husband and there is no legal aid available for us. Lalitas minor son,Ranjit,is also in police custody.
My nephew,Sanjay is just 14-year-old. He had come to see the city just a day before all the ruckus broke out. The police picked him up in the middle of the night. Now they are not releasing him. I will send him back home the moment he comes back home.
Amarjeet Kaur,all-India secretary of AIUC,who had come to visit the affected families said,We had requested the DC to at least release the minors but nothing has been done till date. We will take up this issue again. The district administration should come forward and provide legal aid to the families whose earning members are in jail and do not have any money for securing bails.
