SLAMMING the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for its inaction despite seven people losing their lives at the deadly sharp turn of Jagraon bridge elevated road, the city-based Action Against Corruption group on Tuesday got the turn covered with iron nets on its own. As many as seven people have lost their lives after falling from the turn in the past two-and-a-half years while many others have been injured in accidents. But Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MC Commissioner R K Verma put blame on poor response to the tenders floated to get the sharp turn covered. Robin Chugh, senior vice-president,Action Against Corruption group, which covered the turn with five nets on Tuesday, said,A few months back,we gave an ultimatum of 15 days to the mayor but the turn was not covered. Another accident occurred on Monday and the victim is hospitalised. To wake up the MC from its deep slumber,we decided to cover the turn on our own. MC may adopt callous approach even where lives of people are involved but we cannot. He added that they spent Rs 40,000 to get the turn covered. We cannot always be dependent on MC which is least concerned about the innocent people losing their lives, he added.
