The Third issue of the quarterly magazine Punarjot was released by a hotelier N S Nanda,who is also the president New Hope NGO. This magazine is being brought out by the Punarjot Eye Bank Society,an NGO,for the further promotion of eye donation movement.
While releasing the Magazine Nanda stated that due the efforts of his NGO,New Hope,as many as 183 persons had pledged to donate their Bodies and declared that in future their members will donate their Eyes to Punarjot Eye Bank Society.
Subash Malik,Secretary Punarjot Eye Bank Society,said,Our eye bank has 24 hours on call facility for eye donation and has been striving to bring it on par with international standards.
Malik informed that a Toll Free Number 1053 has been allotted to their Eye Bank,which will be functional within a week. Malik further stated that under special project,a Total Free keratoplasty had been started for patients under age of 50 years,to promote a cause of eye donation.
Dr Ramesh,while highlighting the achievements of the society,informed that 481 free Keratoplasties and other operations had been performed at Punarjot during 2008 alongwith free eye check-up camps at different places. Dr Ramesh stated that recently cornea service had been upgraded at the Punarjot by incorporating advanced Keratoplasty techniques to provide best possible result for our patients.
On this occasion our Managing Committee member Balwinder Singh Bhathal,Labh Singh,Gurjit Singh,Rachpal Singh,Ramesh Kumar were also present.
