27-year-old found dead,kin allege dowry harassment

Parminder Singh,brother of Sharanjeet Kaur,was expecting his sister to be with him on Raksha Bandhan,she was found dead on Tuesday morning.

Sharanjeets husband Ravinder Singh along with his parents Charanjeet Singh and Manjeet Kaur,uncle Gurjeet Singh Lantoo and auntie Jeeti have been booked by police. But no arrest has been made so far. While Sharanjeets in-laws live in division number 3 area,her parents live on Tibba road.

Sharanjeet,27,was married to Ravinder eight years back and had two sons. However,as per the statement of Parminder,her in-laws used to harass and torture her for dowry regularly. Recently,Parminder said,Rs 50,000 were given to his sisters in-laws and another Rs 2 lakh were to be given on September 10 but still they were troubling her.

Parminder said her sister had called on Monday night as well and said that she was being beaten up by the family members,and he heard the news about her death on Tuesday.

Though Ravinder told the police that Sharanjeet had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan, police investigations revealed that she was strangulated with a dupatta which resulted in her death.

Inquiry Officer Pritpal Singh said though they had booked the family members,they were yet to arrest them as they were absconding.
