Police said that the complainant, Dhruv Chandra, alleged that the accused had been meeting him frequently over the past few months, trying to get him to convert.
The Mirzapur police on Saturday arrested a 32-year-old woman after a Dalit labourer filed a complaint alleging that she made repeated attempts to persuade him to convert to Christianity in exchange for money and other inducements.
Police said the accused, Pramila, has been booked under charges of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act in the case lodged at Rajgharh police station.
“Pramila was arrested on Saturday and later produced before a local court of Mirzapur which sent her to judicial custody,” said Station House Officer, Rajgarh police station, Daya Shankar.
Police said that the complainant, Dhruv Chandra, alleged that the accused had been meeting him frequently over the past few months, trying to get him to convert.
Police said the complainant lives in Rampur-38 locality, whereas the accused lives in Chandanpur village nearly 7 km away.
Police sources claimed Pramila’s husband had expressed strong objections to his wife’s activities, which reportedly led to frequent disagreements within the family.
