The Varanasi police has arrested a teenager for allegedly killing his father in a village under Jansa police station area of the district on Saturday night. The police said that the boy wanted his farmer father to re-think his decision to sell the remaining piece of land, which was the sole source of survival for the family.
Superintendent of Police (Rural), Anil Kumar Pandey, said: “The boy had not planned to commit murder. He only wanted to frighten his father into retracting his decision to sell the remaining piece of land. However, in a fit of rage, he injured him seriously and left the spot, leading to the death.”
Apna Dal leader and Mirzapur MP, Anupriya Patel had on Monday intervened on behalf of the mother of the boy amid allegations that he was being framed. The police, however, maintained that they had proceeded as per investigation and that the boy had allegedly confessed to having killed his father.
According to police, the body of Man Bahadur Patel was found near a tube-well with his throat slit.
Patel’s wife Leelawati and other family members had got in touch with the MP for help. State Apna Dal president, Rajendra Pal, said that he was not aware of the entire episode.
Asked about the allegations that the teenager was being implicated, Pandey said: “We have proceeded as per procedure. People can level allegations. If anybody tries to take law and order in their hands, we will deal with the situation accordingly.”
