In another case lodged at the Gunnaur police station yesterday, two persons were booked for reportedly betting Rs 1.5 lakh. The police were alerted to the matter by local residents. Both cases involve charges under the Public Gambling Act, which are considered bailable offenses, said a police officer.

Amar Pal Singh, the station house officer at Rajpura police station, said on Saturday they got information that Vijendra Singh Yadav (35) and Niresh Kumar (26), had allegedly placed a bid of Rs 2.3 lakh on stamp paper on May 15.

According to the police, the arrangement in the betting was that if the BJP candidate emerged victorious, Niresh would be obligated to pay the agreed sum, whereas if the SP candidate secured the win, Vijendra would assume the payment responsibility.

On Saturday, the police got information that Vijendra and Niresh clashed over some issue near their house in Rajpura area. A police team brought Vijendra and Niresh to the police station.
