Trader held for ‘attacking’ man with butt of pistol

The police took action after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

A 55-year-old businessman was arrested on Monday for allegedly beating a man with the butt of his licensed pistol after his SUV was hit from behind
by another vehicle in the Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow city, officials said.

The police took action after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The arrested person was identified as Vinod Mishra and a case was registered against him at the Vibhuti Khand police station under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 151 (breach of peace) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

“We produced Vinod Mishra in court which sent him to judicial custody,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Lucknow) Anindya Vikram Singh.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kumawat said on Monday, a video went viral showing a man purportedly beating a youth with the butt of a pistol.
Taking serious note of the matter, the police began an inquiry. It was found that the victim, Ranjeet Shukla, a private driver, was returning from the Chinhat area when his Maruti WagonR collided with the Tata Safari of the the accused.

A heated argument ensued, and suddenly, Mishra allegedly pulled out his weapon and began threatening and beating Shukla with its butt, it was claimed.
