In order to bring about transparency,Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University at Kanpur has decided to upload the evaluated answersheets on its website from where students can download and get prints also.
The move comes in the wake of the University receiving a number of complaints over the last few years regarding arbitrary evaluation of answer books.
Last year, several students had complained about the marks they had got and several applications were filed for the re-scrutiny of answer books. Also, some of the answer books were lost and students kept running from pillar to post for re-evaluation, vice-chancellor Ashok Kumar said, adding that it was then that the university administration started toying with the idea of uploading the answer books on the Internet.
The first experiment in this regard was conducted last year when the university uploaded answer sheets of back papers for the year 2011-12. The response was very good and we got only five or six complaints regarding evaluation of copies, the V-C said.
After the initial success, the university has now decided to upload answer books of all the students of final year for BA,B Com and BSc for the year 2012-13. A herculean task, the exercise means scanning six answer booklets each of around three lakh final year students.
It will total to nearly 18 lakh answer books. We have allocated a budget of Rs 1 crore for the job. We have also entered into a tie-up with http://www.india.com,which will give us space to display the answer books free of cost, Kumar added.
The technical support for the exercise is being provided by the university staff. The university already has the facility of uploading mark sheets and degrees online.
A student will have to pay Rs 50 per answer book after which he will be issued a unique log-in name and password, suing which,he will be able to view, download and print it.
The process of uploading all the answer books is expected to be completed in six this month and will remain available online for a period of six months. The students, however, will have to lodge their complaint,if any, regarding evaluation of answer books within a month of it being uploaded on the Internet.
If the response is good, university might extend the facility to Masters course and for first and second year of bachelors course as well,he said.
