Taking a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 2019 remark on Modi surname, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said the party and those associated with it cannot digest the fact that someone from a poor and underprivileged family could reach the highest office in the country.

Gandhi was on Friday disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP, a day after a Gujarat court convicted him in a defamation case over the 2019 statement.

Addressing a public meeting in Varanasi where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones of various projects, Adityanath said the Congress has always done the politics of dividing the country and has promoted naxalism and terrorism for its self-interests whenever it got the opportunity.

Adityanath said that when the whole world was appearing eager to adopt the Indian democracy, there were some people who condemn Uttar Pradesh when they go out of the state and put in the dock the country’s democracy when abroad.

“Those who formed government through EVMs in 2004 and 2009 are today questioning the credibility of those very machines when they have lost their own.

People who do not like development of India are leaving no opportunity to defame the nation. Everyone has seen how the Congress leaders were giving statements in the contempt of court,” CM said.

The CM said the Congress leaders never thought about the country’s development and divided the country in the name of caste, region and language.

“When the court asked Rahul Gandhi to apologise for his remark, he refused. By making an unrestrained remark against a backward caste, he (Gandhi) did not follow the parliamentary decorum. It shows that they did not like when the son of a poor, deprived and backward class family reached the top post of the country,” he said.

The CM added the public will take the revenge from the Congress for insults on the poor, Dalits, underprivileged, backwards and constitutional institutions.

“They should apologise to the country or people will never accept them in future,” he said.
In contrast to the Congress, which is creating disharmony among different castes, the government led by Narendra Modi was providing housing, toilets, ration, cooking gas and electricity connections to the poor without any discrimination, he claimed.
