Startled by the observers reports of sabotage and intense factionalism during the partys three-day statewide agitation from March 7,the Samajwadi Party has decided to revisit the process of ticket distribution for the next Assembly elections in 2012. These observers were appointed by the party for supervision of the agitation in all districts.
The SP had initiated the process of selecting candidates for 2012 elections in last April. The party had then received around 4,000 applications from the ticket seekers. Later in July,a team of party leaders had conducted the interviews of the prospective candidates. It was widely speculated that the SP will start announcing the names of the candidates from January this year. The party, however, decided to postpone the announcement till the state executive meet at Gorakhpur in second week of February.
The party has taken a serious note of the anti-party activities particularly by the ticket aspirants during the three-day agitation. The ticket seekers and other party leaders not only sabotaged the agitation but also misled and discouraged the the young party workers, said Akhilesh Yadav, state president of the SP adding the complaints have been received mostly from the Central UP districts and a few from the Eastern districts. He said many such leaders will be shown the door by the party.
The agitation has also helped the party to identify the most committed leaders who without caring for their comforts and safety took the plunge in the stir for its success, said the SP president adding this would impact the selection of candidates for the next Assembly elections.
The SP leader said the party has received the reports from all the observers and is analysing them. We are in no hurry to announce the candidates. If the BSP has announced its candidates and the same is under process for other parties,so be it. We will decide our agenda as per our strategy and our political calculations, said Yadav.
Meanwhile, the party, for keeping the cadres geared up for the Assembly election, will start holding party convention at district and constituency level from the third week of April.
There will be no let up in our campaign against the corrupt BSP government. The blue print is being drawn for the party conventions and other activities till the 2012 elections. Our next campaign is most likely to be kicked off from the third week of April as presently the farmers are busy in wheat harvesting and Navratri festival is also to commence from the first week of April, said Yadav.
