SP leaders join Cong ahead of Rahul visit

Two days ahead of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Kheri,senior Samajwadi Party leaders,including a former minister,joined the Congress on Saturday.

Two days ahead of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Kheri,senior Samajwadi Party leaders,including a former minister,joined the Congress on Saturday.

Former UP minister Banshi Dhar Raj (SP),Kheri Zila Panchayat chairperson Anita Giri (SP) and MLC Dhirendra Bahadur Singh (SP) joined the party in Delhi,said a Congress leader.

The leaders had left the SP last week after differences with local party leaders. Raj,who returns to Congress,had joined SP after parting ways from Congress in 2002.

Two other leaders — former minister Ram Krishna and Zila Parishad chairman Ajay Bhargava (both from Sitapur) — also joined the Congress.

DCC chief Iqbal Ahmad said AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and

General Secretary Digvijay Singh had approved the membership of these leaders.
