A police sub-inspector and a constable Tuesday were booked for allegedly taking bribe from an accused in a case and assaulting him to extort more money from him.
Sub-Inspector Brajesh Kumar Rai,attached to Lucknow Reserve Police Line,Tuesday was also removed from the post of station officer of Lucknows Manak Nagar police station.
Police said an FIR has been lodged against Rai and constable Prabhakar Rai by complainant Uday Narayan of Marutipuram locality of Manak Nagar and the case will be investigated by UP Polices anti-corruption organisation.
Police said Narayan had claimed to have bought a plot from Neena Jaiswal in Manak Nagar area in 2012,which
the latter denied having sold it to him.
Jaiswal then lodged an FIR against Narayan at Manak Nagar police station in April this year for fraudulently getting the plot registered in his name.
Alambagh Circle Officer Gaurav Singh said an arrest warrant was issued against Narayan in the case and it was during this time Rai demanded money from him.
According to Narayan,Rai demanded Rs 5 lakh to avoid arrest in the case. Narayan alleged he had a total of Rs 2 lakh till June 1,but the S-I and the constable later assaulted him to extort the rest.
