(Express File Photo) The BJP will be tackling false allegations levelled by the Opposition against its government in Uttar Pradesh by forming ‘cyber yodha’ teams as part of its preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Party leaders said these teams would include workers trained in using social media and other online platforms and would also publicise welfare schemes rolled out by the Yogi Adityanath-led state government.
The state unit of BJP on Sunday organised a state-level workshop in Lucknow for launching the “shankhnad abhiyan” under which the party will groom ‘cyber yodhas’. By September 15, such workshops will be held in all districts of the state. During the workshop, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also addressed workers.
“The goal is that BJP’s message reaches every smartphone holder in the state. For that, the BJP is developing cyber yodhas ahead of Lok Sabha polls,” said BJP state general secretary Anoop Gupta.
BJP leaders said the ‘cyber yodha’ teams will have at least 19,000 workers to handle social media handles of the party. The workers will be assigned tasks in groups at the level of districts, Lok Sabha constituencies, Assembly constituencies and mandal units. Also, a ‘WhatsApp pramukh’ will be appointed for each polling booth and will be tasked with creating a WhatsApp group of at least 40 per cent of voters of that booth. The ‘WhatsApp pramukh’ will share the contents provided by the party with the voters.
“The party will also rope in social media influencers who are not associated with the BJP but are inspired by the party’s nationalist ideology. Volunteer conferences with such social media influencers will be organised in around 15 major cities of the state,” a BJP leader said.
