Stand-up comedian says he loved playing UP CM

Stars and politicians, from Amitabh Bachchan to Lalu Prasad Yadav have guffawed to see him mimic them and even patted his back for his comic flair, but the best known face of the Indian comedy business Raju Srivastav,is high on his stint of taking off on the UP Chief Minister.

“I particularly enjoyed playing Mayawati,” says Raju Srivastav, with reference to a series of take-offs he has done for the latest TV channel Mastiii,an enterprise of Sri Adhikari Brothers, the previous owners of SAB TV. He was in Lucknow on Friday to promote the new channel, which is different from general entertainment channels in that it has no series per se and only airs songs new and old, interspersed by short gags in programmes like Raju Bane Netaji,Gajodhar Kahe Kab Tak Sahe,Raju ki Adalat and a host of others like Tedhi Medhi Baatein in which there are wacky celebrity interviews and Home Shocking Network,a spoof on the teleshopping business and advertisements.

“I have never forayed into production or acting in films and serials because that would take me nowhere…I give all to the shows I do whether on stage or on TV,” said Srivastav.

“In other shows on the channel you will see comic artistes like Suresh Menon,Shailesh Lodha,Sunil Pal and Howard Rosemeyer (playing an endearing Sardar ji called Puzzle Singh),so we are sure the viewers wouldn’t get a Raju overdose,” said the channel’s Associate President Programming Anita Varma, adding that in due course of time, viewers would be invited to display their comic flair if found worthy.
