He replaces 1990-batch IPS officer Prashant Kumar, who served as officiating DGP since February last year (X/@Rajeevkrishna69)THE UTTAR Pradesh government on Saturday appointed Rajeev Krishna, a 1991-batch IPS officer, as the new officiating Director General of Police (DGP). With this appointment, Krishna becomes the fifth consecutive officer to hold the state’s top police post in an acting capacity.
He replaces 1990-batch IPS officer Prashant Kumar, who served as officiating DGP since February last year.
Krishna, who hails from Gautam Buddh Nagar, was Director of Vigilance Establishment in the UP Police, with the additional charge of Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) since February last year. In March, shortly after the government cancelled the police constable recruitment exam over allegations of a paper leak, he was assigned an additional role as the UPPRPB chairperson.
Krishna, an electronics and communication engineering graduate, has held several key positions during his service. He served as the police chief of multiple districts, including Lucknow and Agra. In 2007, he was appointed to lead the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) at the time of its formation and is credited with the arrest of several alleged terror operatives.
He was serving as the ATS chief when the Indian Mujahideen (IM) module—allegedly linked to a series of blasts across the country—was busted. Acting in coordination with various security agencies and state police forces, the ATS arrested several suspected IM operatives during his tenure.
Before assuming charge as Director of Vigilance Establishment, he also served as the Additional Director General of the Lucknow Zone.
