AFTER NEARLY a year, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to join the party’s campaign in Uttar Pradesh as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which is scheduled to enter Uttar Pradesh from Chandauli district on February 14.
While the party on Wednesday appointed former MP PL Punia as convenor of the Yatra in Uttar Pradesh and Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhna Mishra as co-convenor, sources said the route of the yatra is “being finalised.”
As per the proposed route, the Yatra will pass through 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh from Chandauli to Agra and would enter Rajasthan from Agra after 11-day stay in different parts of the state from Eastern end to the Western part of the state.
The Congress, which also held one of the preparations meeting at Uttar Pradesh Congress State Headquarters in Lucknow on Wednesday, is also planning public meetings of Rahul Gandhi along the way.
Meanwhile, the tentative route, which has been decided for the Yatra’s phase in Uttar Pradesh is starting from Chandauli, then entering Varanasi, Bhadohi, Prayagraj and Pratapgarh in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Then it would cover Amethi and Rae Bareli, before reaching Lucknow then going to Sitapur, Lakhimpurkhiri, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Rampur. In Western Uttar Pradesh, it would cover Moradabad, Sambhal, Amroha, Bulandshahar, Aligarh, Hathras and Agra.
Sources said 13 neighbougring districts would be covered with this main route as their workers would join Yatra in the neighouring main route districts and these would include Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Kaushambi in eastern Uttar Pradesh then Chitrakoot and Fatehpur, Unnao, Hardoi, Farukkhabad, Badaun, Kasganj, Etah, Firozabad and Etawah in the West.
Asked about the preparations and whether INDIA bloc alliance partners have been invited to join the Yatra, AICC General Secretary Avinash Pande said that all the alliance partners have been invited to join the Yatra in Uttar Pradesh.
The party also appointed Shiv Pandey as state incharge of “Jyot se Jyot Jalate” raho campaign to get support for Bharat Jodo Naya yatra in UP.
