AS PART Of a two-day trip to his Parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli and his former constituency Amethi, MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also visited the family of Shubham Dwivedi, who was among those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, in Kanpur on Wednesday. Shubham’s family members demanded martyr status for him and the Congress leader assured them that the party would support their demand and also pointed out that he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a special session of the Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Amethi, posters targeting him over various issues were spotted across the constituency. This was Rahul's first visit to his former Lok Sabha Constituency after Lok Sabha elections last year, in which he had chosen to contest from Rae Bareli and won. Later in the day, he visited Shubham's family in Kanpur and was accompanied by Congress general secretary Avinash Pande, its state president Ajay Rai and other senior party leaders. “We sought his support for our demand of martyr status for Shubham,” Shubham’s wife Aishanya told mediapersons later. Sanjay Dwivedi, Shubham’s father, said Gandhi assured them of support in their demand for status of Martyr for their son and also facilitated their talk with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who according to him termed the family's demand “appropriate”. Later in the day, Gandhi posted on X, “Today I met the family members of Shubham Dwivedi, who was martyred in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam and consoled them. The whole country stands with the bereaved families in this sad moment. Struct and concrete action should be taken against the terrorists and the victim families should get justice.”
