Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that like modernised armed forces are needed to deal with any external threats to the country, modernisation of police force is also mandatory for maintaining internal security within the borders.
The CM, who inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 60 development projects worth Rs 724 crore, including a newly constructed police lines, in Kasganj district, said police personnel were earlier living in dilapidated barracks but are now being provided luxury residential accommodations in high-rise buildings.
The Kasganj police lines built on 25.63 hectares at a cost of Rs 191 crore will serve as a model for the entire country, he claimed.
“Just as Prime Minister Modi modernised our armed forces that brought Pakistan on its knees, we must similarly modernise our police force to ensure the safety and stability of the state and the nation,” Adityanath added.
Since its formation as a district in 2008, Kasganj was long deprived of development, which was never a priority for previous governments, he alleged.
“Anarchy and corruption defined those governments. But today, the Uttar Pradesh Police have become a nemesis for the mafia. No mafia can run a parallel government or grab properties of the poor. Those who attempt to threaten the safety of our daughters or businessmen must now be ready to meet their end.”
The CM criticised the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party governments, accusing them of fostering lawlessness. “Before 2017, an atmosphere of fear prevailed in UP. Streets would get empty at dusk, miscreants roamed freely and riots erupted every few days. Neither daughters nor traders were safe,” he said.
“From 2008 to 2017, no land or funds were allocated for Kasganj police lines. In 12 districts, police lines didn’t even exist. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police had to operate out of block offices. How could the safety of 25 crore people be ensured in such conditions?” he asked.
Emphasising that the district is home to the “sacred land of Lord Vishnu’s Varaha incarnation and the tapobhoomi (meditation site) of Maharishi Kapil, the Chief Minister said Soron town holds spiritual importance on par with Sambhal which is linked to the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
“Just as Ayodhya, Mathura, and Vrindavan are witnessing transformation, Soron too will emerge as a centre of spiritual tourism and development,” he added.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Chief Minister Composite School in Kasganj, which will offer education from pre-primary to Class 12. In the first phase, such schools will be set up at the district level, followed by expansions to tehsil, block, and nyaya panchayat level, he announced. “Every child, regardless of their background will have access to modern education and the opportunity to contribute to nation-building,” he added.
