The Lucknow Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Thursday granted the police three-day custody remand of K M Tripathi  Chief Regional Manager of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation.
The Hazratganj police had filed the application seeking Tripathis remand in a case of Arms Act registered against him on last Sunday.
The SP (East),Harish Kumar,said the court of CJM Pramod Kumar has remanded the accused in police custody beginning 11 am on Friday.
The police sought the remand to interrogate Tripathi about the source from where he had procured a .9 mm pistol,50 cartridges and two magazines.
The Anti-Corruption wing of the CBI in Lucknow had recovered the arms and ammunition from Tripathis official residence in Hazratganj,during a raid on last Saturday. The agency also had seized cash,jewellery and other expensive items worth several lakhs from the residence.
The CBI team had arrested Tripathi the same morning while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from a contractor for favouring the latter in a catering contract.
While the agency had lodged a case of bribery and amassing disproportionate assets,CBI Inspector H N Pandey lodged a case at the Hazratganj police station against Tripathi for the possession of prohibited bore pistol and cartridges.
The ADG (Law and Order),A K Jain,said the police will interrogate Tripathi about his intention behind keeping the .9 mm bore USA-make pistol. The police will also initiate action against the person who had helped Tripathi in getting the weapon,he added.
Tripathi is currently lodged in Lucknow district jail. He had served on
several significant posts in Northern Railways,including senior divisional commercial manager and senior divisional operations manager.
