Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi for two days, beginning December 17, during which he will attend the inaugural function of the second phase of Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, besides participating in several other events.
“Prime Minister Modi will be on a two-day visit to Varanasi. Apart from attending Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, he will participate in Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra events for urban and rural areas and address a public meeting,” a senior district administration officer said.
With the Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, the Prime Minister’s visit to his constituency assumes significance.
On December 17, the Prime Minister is likely to attend a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra event for the urban (i.e. Municipal Corporation) area, and then he will participate in the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam in the evening, officials said.
The next day (on December 18), Modi is likely to attend an event at Swarved Mahamandir — touted to be one of the biggest centres of Vihangam Yog and meditation — and then participate in an event of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra for rural area, they said.
Officials said the Prime Minister will launch and lay the foundation stones of several development projects and address a public meeting.
Sources said Modi is also likely to interact with the beneficiaries during the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra event for rural areas.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Vihangam Yog Sansthan by Sadafal Deo Maharaj, the organisation is holding a ‘mahayagya’ on December 17 and 18, and the Prime Miniter is likely to be part of the event taking place in Umarhan area of Varanasi on the second day.
The second phase of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam is taking place from 17 to 30 December under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ programme, which was launched last year aiming to connect the knowledge and culture of Kashi and Tamil Nadu.
Like the previous year, this year too, delegations from Tamil Nadu would be visiting Varanasi in seven groups — teachers and students, writers, professionals, artisans, farmers, traders and a spiritual group — to participate in both academic and cultural events and interact with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.
Named after rivers such as the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Sindhu, Narmada, Godavari and Kaveri, the visiting delegations would be taken to places of historical and religious significance in Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya, they said.
