The Allahabad High Court has sought the response of the state government on a petition filed by sub-inspectors (S-Is),who have challenged the recent orders of the government regarding promotion of sub-inspectors to the post of inspectors.
A division bench of Justices Vineet Saran and Ajai Lamba directed the state government to file its response within three weeks on the petition filed by Ashok Kumar Singh and 79 other S-Is. The court said that the promotions given to the S-Is to the post of inspectors under the new rules will be subject to the final outcome of the petition. The petitioners have challenged the government order, which came in force from March 1,on the ground that it was arbitrary and discriminatory.
The order said that while 50 per cent of the promotions of S-Is to inspectors would be carried out on the basis of seniority, the remaining 50 per cent would be filled up through a process of examination and interview that the S-Is will have to undergo.
