He is not quite prolific for a singing star,but every film song rendered by Mohit Chauhan in his sonorous voice has made people take note…and ask for more.

“I have evolved since my debut in a private music album,” said the singer,in Lucknow on Monday to select a singer for his team in Maha Muqabla,the musical show on Star Plus. “Our group Silk Route’s Dooba-Dooba was a runaway success,but I couldn’t bask in it forever. Members of the band went each his own way and I kept composing and singing,” continued Mohit,who,among other things,composed and sung for the Rajpal Yadav film Main Meri Patni Aur Woh,till AR Rahman gave him the big break.

“I consider Khoon chala in Rang De Basanti the turning point in my career. Tum se hi in Jab We Met and Masakkali for Delhi 6 were few but not as far between as the time gap between my debut and recognition,” said the singer who is also composing for some films.

“It’s the trend of the present day and age and all big singers are associated with some musical show on television or the other,so I feel I am doing something worthwhile taking part in a show that is different in that the voting is instant by a live audience.”
