To ensure easy availability of artisans to make the statues for the upcoming memorials, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has decided to set up a panel of artists.

The LDA has already invited proposals from individual sculptors, artists and establishments with an experience in making statues, elephants, domes and fountains of bronze, marble, sandstone and granite. The panel will comprise five to six artistes, with the pay scale only to be decided after negotiation.

“Till date, whenever it was required to make a statue or dome, the LDA had to search for skilled sculptors and artists and that, too, sometimes on a very short notice,” said S B Mishra,LDA Joint Director (Land and Development). “This was why we decided to form a panel comprising few experts and take their services when required. This panel will mainly prepare statues and elephants.”
