Amid rumblings within the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP after the party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday, in a message to his party as well as the Opposition, defended the “bulldozer policy” and said that he took the responsibility of running the government “not to do a mere “naukri” (job), but to ensure that those guilty also suffer”.
Speaking in the Assembly during the discussion of the Supplementary Budget, Adityanath said: “You are afraid of bulldozer, but it is not for innocent. It is for those criminals who play with the trust of the youth of the state, play with the security of traders and daughters of the state, spread anarchy and make common people’s life miserable.”
The chief minister’s defence of the “bulldozer policy” comes in the wake of ally and minister in his government Sanjay Nishad’s recent remark that “misuse of bulldozer” led to the BJP’s loss in the state in the Lok Sabha polls.
“Mein yahan naukri karne nahi aaya hun, katai nahi. Mein is liye aaya hun ki agar koi karega to bhuktega bhi (I have not come here to do a mere job, never. I have come to ensure that the guilty suffer for their acts),” the CM said.
“Yeh pratishtha ki ladayi nahi hai… Mujhe pratistha prapt karni hoti to ush se jyada pratistha apne mutt mein mil jaati hai (This is not a fight for prestige. I get more prestige in my mutt),” Adityanath, who is head of the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur, said.
In a veiled message to his detractors within the party and without, Adityanath said, “Sarkar chalegi, majbooti ke sath chalegi (the government will continue and will run with strength).”
In a pointed attack on the Congress and Samjawadi Party (SP), Adityanath accused the Opposition parties of misleading the voters during the Lok Sabha elections.
Taking a dig at the “khata-khat” phrase used by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Samajwadi Party during the campaign, Adityanath said: “There was khata-khat, khata-khat in the elections… where did that promise to give Rs 1 lakh go? Khata-khat nahi, 2027 mein safa chat ho jayenge (Not khata-khat, they will be wiped out in 2027 Assembly polls)… Then we will ask Congress about the Rs 1 lakh promise.”
Accusing the INDIA bloc partners – the SP and Congress – of “spreading lies that the Constitution and reservation would be in danger once Narendra Modi comes to power for third time”, Adityanath said: “Modi ji is there for 10 years. He has given respect to Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The Congress, which defeated Ambedkar, has been successful in fooling the public that reservation would be finished.”
“I want to point out that when in power they never gave even 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in jobs,” claimed Adityanath, alleging that when SP and Congress were in power, jobs were given on “pick and choose basis”.
