Months after the UP government decided to develop the State Capital Region surrounding Lucknow on the lines of the National Capital Region in Delhi, the state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the draft for it and also other region development authority ordinance.
The ordinance will define the area of the districts adjoining the state Capital Lucknow.
“On the lines of the National Capital Region (NCR), the State Capital Region aims to ensure planned development of the area surrounding Lucknow. Neighbouring districts like Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, etc will be included in it and a plan will be chalked out for their development,” said state Finance Minister Suresh Khanna after the Cabinet meeting that was chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to the expansion of Lucknow Metro’s East-West Corridor from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj.
“The new stretch, which was long awaited, will be 11.165-km-long. The estimated cost of the project will be about Rs 1,801 crore and the estimated date for completion of the project is June 30, 2027,” said Minister Sharma.
As per the project draft, approved by the Cabinet, the extended 11-km stretch will have 12 stations, out of which five will be on the elevated section, and the rest seven will be underground.
